FAB Friday: The Recessional

Hello beautiful Swannys!

After completing my internship with Swann Soirées earlier this year and coming back home to Lyon (France), it has been quite difficult to get my mind off weddings.

Now that I have been exposed to so many weddings, I have come to realize most trends are universal. It is just a matter of when they arrive to a particular place and how long they stay, mix that with some of the timeless traditions (or a couple adding a personal twist) and we have a “hybrid” trend that spreads all over!

Today we  explore the recessional send-off trend. In France, most couples get married in a church. In fact, it was a real surprise for me being part of the squad and seeing so many weddings that were not in a church.

In the U.S. most guests are used to tossing flower petals, eco-confetti, maybe some yarn poms or other “non destructive” gentle and pretty item as the couple walks by them during the recessional. That is, if the church allows you to have any sort of festive send-off, the reality is that many don’t for it isn’t easy or practical to clean-up after and sometimes it can pose a safety hazard.

But in France, we can do a lot of things, because our recessional cheering happens outside the building itself. After the couple shares their first married kiss, they proceed to walk-out through a side door of the church, then all of the bridal party and guests exit through the main entry and gather out front to wait for them. Then, in a very dramatic exit, the doors open and the couple comes out to a crowd of joyous family and friends, cheering, clapping, and tossing any one of the the little bits of visible cheer! It really is a fun experience for everyone!

Never the less, someone still has to clean up after… nobody likes to be the one to do that. So my favorite exit cheer and perhaps the most popular out here is definitely bubbles!  Every  single guest loves them, adults and children alike have so much fun blowing bubbles. And you know what? The visual effect on photos is just sublime!! I

Do you think you’d like to have a recessional cheer like this?
