Pro Spotlight: Local Artist Kevin Winger

This past week I met with our expressionist artist of a neighbor, Kevin Winger.  I visited his “hole-in-the-wall” gallery, Mod-est, which houses an artillery of experimental expressionist and impressionist paintings created almost as if from a subconscious memory or dream.  Wildly unique, saturated and vibrant, his experimental artwork fits with his passionate nature and personal view on life.  I got the soothing sense of being in the presence of someone who considers his work more than just a job, it is an experience, a journey in creativity, and he is living his passion.

He appreciates the everyday beauty of life and uses this as an inspiration through his artwork.  Utilizing palate knives or the occasional finger, Kevin experiments with various paints, materials such as metal foil, and…whatever is inspirational at the moment!  His sculptural paintings, in which he referred to as “icing a cake,” are individualized but has the ability to create abstractive artwork on commission.  We are in LOVE with Kevin’s ability to create a fresh impressionist twist on photographs too.  Right now he is working on a painting based on a photograph of one of our bride’s bouquets.  This is such an awesome idea for brides wanting to keep a piece of their wedding day in a contemporary, unique, and original way.

Kevin has been featured in the Little Italy Art Walk, Del Mar Fair, Carlsbad Library and the La Jolla Festival of the Arts, among a long list of accomplishments.  Come visit his studio gallery right below our office  {2690 Historic Decatur Rd. #104} or visit his website to check out his fabulous artwork!

xxo!
